Jaromir Jagr signed with a Russian team a day after his split with the New York Rangers, leaving the NHL after nearly two decades and returning to the club he joined during the 2004-05 lockout. The Russian League team Avangard Omsk announced the signing of the 36-year-old Czech winger on its Web site Friday.

Although Dan Boyle felt betrayed when the Tampa Bay Lightning decided to trade him, the standout defenseman is feeling much better about it after landing with the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks acquired Boyle from Tampa Bay in a four-player deal Friday, trading defenseman Matt Carle and top prospect Ty Wishart to the Lightning to add their second star defenseman in two days.

Penguins sign F Cooke to replace Ruutu (AP)
Free agent forward Matt Cooke signed a two-year contract with Pittsburgh on Saturday, replacing Jarkko Ruutu as the Penguins' primary agitator. The Penguins also offered Ruutu a two-year contract earlier this week but he signed a three-year deal with the Ottawa Senators after free agent bidding began.
Canucks obtain RW Bernier from Sabres (AP)
The Canucks acquired right wing Steve Bernier from the Buffalo Sabres on Friday for a third-round pick in the 2009 NHL draft and a second-round selection in 2010. Bernier was obtained by Buffalo at the trade deadline in February as part of the deal that sent All-Star defenseman Brian Campbell to San Jose.
Sharks trade D Rivet to Sabres (AP)
The San Jose Sharks traded veteran defenseman Craig Rivet to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday for two second-round draft choices. The Sharks also gave up a seventh-round pick in 2010 along with Rivet, the longtime Montreal defenseman who joined the Sharks in a trade late in the 2006-07 season. San Jose gets a second-round draft choice in each of the last two drafts.
