By Tim Panaccio

After watching Mike Knuble sign with the Washington Capitals, the Flyers signed 14-year NHL veteran Ian Laperriere to a three-year, $3.5 million contract.
Laperriere, who played the past four seasons in Colorado, is not a goal scorer but a defensive right wing.
The 35-year-old forward won’t replace the 50 goals the Flyers have lost now that Knuble and Joffrey Lupul are no longer around. But he gives the club a veteran presence in the room.
“I was surprised that a couple of teams from the Eastern Conference came after me,” Laperriere said on his cell phone. “I spent most of my career in the west. It’s always nice and you’re flattered, by yes, I was a little surprised by the Flyers.
“They are a physical, high-tempo team. I think maybe I can bring some grit and character to the team. That’s what... [Read More]

Brian Boucher, one of the most popular, affable goaltenders to wear orange ‘n black, is coming home.
The Flyers signed the former San Jose Shark to a two-year, $1.8 million deal Wednesday as free agency began in earnest. Boucher will back-up newcomer Ray Emery.
The 32-year-old Boucher is a native from Woonsocket, R.I., and was a first-round pick by the Flyers in 1995 (22nd overall).
He was Evgeni Nabokov’s backup last season in San Jose posting a 12-6 record with a sterling 2.18 goals20against average and .917 save percentage.
He played three seasons with the Flyers and is most remembered for his strong showing under Craig Ramsay against the New Jersey Devils in the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals. The Devils won in seven games, moving on to capture the Stanley Cup against Dallas.
Boucher had an 11-7 record during the Flyers’ 2000... [Read More]

PRONGER A FLYER
The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenceman Chris Pronger to the Philadelphia Flyers for defenceman Luca Sbisa, forward Joffrey Lupul and two first-round picks.
Pronger, a native of Dryden, Ontario, was originally drafted second overall by the Hartford Whalers in 1993, but was traded two years later to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Brendan Shanahan.
In nine seasons with the Blues, the 34-year-old flourished into the outstanding defenceman many expected he would become out of junior, winning the Hart and Norris Trophies in the 1999-2000 campaign.
Following the 2004-05 lockout, and with the Blues facing financial hardships, Pronger was dealt to Edmonton for a package that included defenceman Eric Brewer.
Pronger signed a long-term deal with the Oilers but following one season in which he led the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final, the enigmatic blueliner demanded a trade. Pronger was... [Read More]
